"Sculptures from the Museum of Man in Paris Made Based on Oskar Hansen’s and Lech Kunka’s Drawings”

Sculptures from the Museum of Man in Paris Made Based on Oskar Hansen’s and Lech Kunka’s Drawings,
2014,
ca. 40 x 15 cm,
3D print of polylactide (PLA)

The series of sculptures was created based on sketches by Oskar Hansen from his visit to the Musée de l’Homme in Paris. Polish avant-garde artists such as Oscar Hansen, Tadeusz Kantor, and Władysław Hasior in the 1950s were fascinated by what Paris experienced in the 1930s – a holistic vision of humanity and the art’s opening out to anthropology, ethnography, and philosophy.

The works from this series were first presented as part of the stage design for the exhibition “Map. Artistic Migrations and the Cold War” at the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw. The exhibition showcased a map of the art world after World War II, highlighting the European and non-European artistic journeys of Polish artists and critics. The aim was to emphasize that despite the Iron Curtain and isolationism, there was an international exchange of knowledge and a flow of inspiration occurring at that time.
