Katarzyna & Wojciech Szafrański

series: Collectors

The collection of Katarzyna and Wojciech Szafrański comprises approximately one thousand works, half of which are contemporary art. The assembled pieces create a broad yet cohesive overview of Polish art from recent decades. Alongside works by classics such as Henryk Stażewski, Andrzej Wróblewski, and Maria Jarema, the collection includes pieces by artists associated with the expressionist painting of the 1980s, the critical art of the 1990s, as well as the youngest generation. Painting, sculpture, photography, and installations converge in the Szafrański family collection, forming a remarkably consistent selection distinguished by its thematic and iconographic cohesion.

The exhibition “Don’t Ask About Poland: From the Collection of Katarzyna and Wojciech Szafrański”, presented at the Centre of Contemporary Art “Znaki Czasu” in Toruń, showcased this collection through a broad panorama, emphasizing its critical perspective on issues of national identity and political entanglements.
