Decolonized History of Art: Global Narratives from 1900 to the Present at Institution

January 17th – April 22nd, 2026

We are excited to begin the new year with a partnership with Institution, an internationally focused start-up dedicated to researching, designing, and implementing innovative models of creation and participation in the cultural sector.

Starting January 17, Institution School will launch Decolonized History of Art: Global Narratives from 1900 to the Present, a 24-lesson online course that reexamines how art history has traditionally been written, offering a truly global and polyphonic perspective on modern and contemporary art.

The program traces diverse artistic trajectories, ranging from anti-colonial modernisms in South Asia and Black diasporic practices to postwar experimental collectives and Indigenous artistic expressions. Alongside these narratives, the course critically revisits the Western canon, revealing its colonial foundations and internal contradictions.

The faculty comprises some of the most influential voices in contemporary art history and curatorial practice, including a familiar voice for the Polish audience, Anda Rottenberg, who will talk about Polish critical art. The faculty’s diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise reflect the course’s commitment to a decolonial, transnational, and critically informed understanding of global art histories.

With the code DELAART, you’ll receive €50 on all the types of subscriptions available for the course.
