Enlightenment, a monographic exhibition of Marek Bimer’s works, is presented in the post-industrial space of a former pharmaceutical warehouse in Warsaw. Spanning over 1,200 m², it guides viewers through a world of monumental sculptures, light objects, and immersive installations. The exhibition features both the artist’s latest works and pieces created over more than four decades.
The dela.art collection, together with Eneris, is proud to be a partner of the exhibition. Two works from the collection, Save the Oceans (2019) and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (2022), are also on display.
In Save the Oceans, Marek Bimer addresses the issue of marine pollution. The artist frequently incorporates waste materials into the structure of his works. The resin in which he embeds discarded items – resembling specimens preserved in formalin – symbolizes suspended time and highlights the enduring consequences of irresponsible attitudes toward the environment.
The sculpture Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde references Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella, which explores the tension between the light and dark sides of human nature. Marek Bimer translates this theme into the language of sculpture by creating an anonymous form reminiscent of a human face. The object’s duality is expressed through the contrast between smooth, glossy surfaces and rough, raw textures, as well as through the interplay of light and shadow, which alters the perception of the sculpture depending on its display conditions.
