at the Venice Biennale

Poland has been participating in one of the most prestigious artistic events in the world, the International Art Exhibition — La Biennale di Venezia, since 1932. The construction of the Pavilion was financed by the Polish government, and it remains its property to this day. Zachęta — National Gallery of Art is the custodian of the Polish Pavilion and the organizer of exhibitions at the Art Biennale and Architecture Biennale in Venice, selected through an open competition.


Polish presentations in Venice have been repeatedly recognized by the international Jury. In 1999, Katarzyna Kozyra’s exhibition Men’s Bathhouse in the Polish Pavilion received a special mention at the International Art Exhibition. And in 2008, the exhibition Hotel Polonia. Afterlife of Buildings by Kobas Laksa and Nicolas Grospierre won the highest award, the Golden Lion, at the International Architecture Exhibition.
