Hen: Barbara Kruger
2016,
metal,
120 x 140 x 50 cm
“Hen: Barbara Kruger” is part of a larger project by Julia Curyło dedicated to women’s art. The shape of the object refers to the colloquial saying “home hen,” which means “housewife” in Polish. On one side, there is a fragment of Barbara Kruger’s work “Not stupid enough” – an iconic piece of feminist art. On the second line, there are slogans forming the American flag. Quoting Barbara Kruger, Julia Curyło looks at the situation of women artists in the modern world and the influence of popular culture on society’s expectations towards women and their art.
