Grégoire Scalabre, phot. Anthony Girardi L’Ultime Métamorphose de Thétis is the largest work created by the artist to date: it stands 2 m tall, 1.6 m wide, and weighs 450 kilos. This monumental piece consists of 70,000 tiny vases, each meticulously shaped and glazed by the artist’s own hand.

The title refers to the mythological figure Thetis, a sea nymph known for her ability to shapeshift and her futile attempts to escape destiny. The artist drew significant inspiration from reflecting on the fate of sinking ships carrying amphorae and the subsequent existence of these ceramic vessels, which rested on the seabed for centuries, becoming part of the underwater landscape and a testament to history.
