Nicolas Grospierre is an artist who uses photography as his primary tool to portray architecture. He sees architecture as a relic of recent past and explores the ideas behind the visual representations of institutions such as libraries, banks, and hotels. Urban planning and ecopoetics are also areas of interest for him. In his conceptual works, Grospierre engages the viewer by drawing them in with almost hypnotic objects.
Born in 1975, Nicolas Grospierre grew up in France and has been living in Poland since 1999. Prior to pursuing photography, he studied political science and sociology in Paris and London. In 2008, he was awarded the Golden Lion at the 11th Architecture Biennale in Venice (alongside Kobas Laksa) for his exhibition at the Polish Pavilion. In 2011, he received the Polityka’s Passport award in the Visual Arts category. His works have been exhibited at various prestigious venues worldwide, including CCA Zamek Ujazdowski, Raster and BWA galleries in Warsaw, Cueto Projects in New York, Signum Foundation in Venice, Graham Foundation in Chicago, Architectural Association Gallery in London, Polish Institute in Madrid, Peresvetov Pereulok Gallery in Moscow, and Architektur Galerie in Munich.
